Hearing The Voice Of God
I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. – Genesis 12:2
We all want to know what God’s will is for our lives. But in order for you to get confirmation of God’s will, you must have the ability to hear the voice of God. This entire scene in Genesis 12 centers around what the Lord says to Abram, and Abram obeying. God speaks and Abram hears.
You can’t discover God’s will for your life if you don’t take the time to hear the voice of God. God speaks to us in a variety of ways as His children. God speaks through His Word; God speaks through messengers, such as priests, angels, and prophets; and God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit.
Abram follows the Lord’s lead without knowing where exactly he is going because he is convinced that he hears the voice of God. And every Christian ought to reach a point in his or her life when he or she is in tune to the voice of God; so in tune that when God speaks, you know it’s God.
Jesus said in John 10: “…My sheep know my voice…and a stranger they will not follow.…” The more time you spend with the Lord, intently asking and listening for Him to speak to you, the more you will learn His voice, and therefore the more clarity you will receive around His will for your life. But if you’re always doing all the talking, if you’re never quieting your own voice enough to allow God room to speak to you, whether through His Word, through other people, or through the Holy Spirit, then you may miss out on God sharing something with you that you need to hear. So make a point moving forward to be still and quiet before the Lord, and wait eagerly and expectantly for Him to speak to your heart.
