The Bigger Picture
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9
If you are an avid golfer, then you probably know that Legends Golf and Safari Resorts is considered one of the most creative and beautiful golf courses of all time. One time, one of my good friends went to play golf there and fell in love with it.
During one of the afternoons he was on the course, one of the members of the resort told him he would not appreciate the beauty and genius of the course unless he saw it from the sky. Eager to see the course from above, my friend got in a helicopter to view the course from a different perspective, and when he did, he discovered something he would never forget.
From the sky he saw that each hole on the course was a part of a larger work of art that he could not see from the ground. There were details that could never be understood by standing on the course, and there were connections between each hole that were undetectable unless seen from up above.
It’s the same way with our lives. God sees things from above that we can’t see from below. His perspective is so much bigger, better, and grander than ours will ever be. Therefore, He has a much greater understanding of how each area of our lives fits together to line up with His ultimate plan and purpose for us.
So when God says “no,” we have to trust that His response, though seemingly undesirable, fits within a bigger picture for our future. Sometimes not being hired for a job today can point you to the door of your own business tomorrow. Sometimes one relationship not working out today can point you to meeting your lifelong partner down the road. You never know what God has in store for you in the grand scheme of things. So choose to trust His big picture perspective, understanding how limited your viewpoint is, and that He knows exactly where to lead you next.
