Faith With Action
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.” – John 4:13-15
The journey towards wholeness comes, first of all, when we understand that healing and wholeness must be pursued. The woman in today’s key passage had her life turned around that day at Jacob’s well, but it doesn’t just happen on its own or by divine osmosis. Jesus offers her life-giving water, but he doesn’t force her to drink. If she wants it, she has to go for it. She has to ask for it.
Listen to verse 15: “The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.” In other words, she heard His sermon series on living water, and she didn’t just go home and tweet about the points in His message, continuing to act the same say. She responded to the word that she heard.
The sign that we want to move from where we are to where God wants us to be is whether we will put His principles into practice. Achieving wholeness requires effort. God makes the offer, but we have to accept it. Wholeness does not just happen; we must go after it. That’s exactly what this woman at the well does, and it’s exactly what we should do as well. It’s not enough to just hear what the Lord wants us to do. We must put our faith into action if we want to experience the fullness and wholeness that is to be found in a relationship with Christ.
