Reaching For Healing
Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. - Psalm 30:2
Thomas Edison once said, "Many of life's failures are people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Have you considered that today just might be your day? This might be the day that God wants to come through for you. This might be the day that God wants to answer the prayer you’ve been praying for years now. What could you be missing out on if you quit pursuing what you’ve been praying for?
Think about the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:25–34. She had been going to one doctor after another, trying to find healing, but with no success. However, what doctors could not do in years, Jesus did within seconds. The woman’s problem was she kept trying the wrong doctors. But that day, she found the right Doctor. She had been knocking on the wrong door but that day she knocked on the right door, and that made all the difference.
But for her to experience healing from Jesus, she had to take action. She had to reach so that she could touch. The woman didn't know if this act of faith would work out. But it was her faith that prompted her to reach out to Jesus, even when she didn’t have all the answers.
Hebrews 11:1 says, “faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” The faith necessary to seize the moment does not always come with all of the answers. It’s oftentimes unclear. You don’t see the full picture. That was the case for this woman. She had tried plenty of doctors, but now it was time to go to Jesus.
Furthermore, it was not enough just to show up. If she was going to be healed, she had to take action. She could not just wait on God she had to do something. Jesus had the power, but she had to take the risk. Taking the risk is a divine partnership that matches our faith and action with God’s power and willingness. Faith without our works is dead. In other words, we ought to pray like it's all up to God but work like it's all up to us.
Somewhere between prayer and works, something starts to happen. The Bible says she reached, and she touched. The healing was just as much in the reach as it was in the touch. In fact, there was no healing touch without a human reach. You have to do the reaching if you want God to do the healing.
