Rest in God’s Peace
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Isn’t it comforting to know that no matter what you’re going through, what you’re dealing with, or what’s bothering you, there is always peace to be found in the Lord? And not only is there peace now, but there is a place of eternal peace in heaven we get to look forward to as followers of Christ.
When Jesus told His disciples, He was going to prepare a place for them, He was saying that He had a place where they could rest from the problems of this world, a place where there is peace on the other side of the stress and anxiety they were currently facing. That same promise Jesus made to them is true for us as well.
You see, when you know that all things work together for your good, you don’t get despondent about hard times, because you know God is using them. And not only that, but you know that these hard times are only temporary. So, in the meantime, you can learn and grow from the trials and tribulations you are facing, and you can experience peace in the midst of it all through the Holy Spirit living inside of you.
It’s always amazing to witness how believers show Christ-like behavior through the tough seasons in their lives. I’ve seen people lose jobs, lose loved ones, face stress, and struggle, and yet somehow, they have a calmness about them. That is because deep down, they have a peace that surpasses all understanding.
It’s a peace that helps you face the unfaceable; a peace that helps you bear the unbearable; a peace that helps you endure the unendurable; and a peace that helps you accept the unacceptable. My prayer is that if you’re not already taking hold of that peace that is offered to you freely as a follower of Jesus, you would do so today and ask the Lord to fill you with His peace that transcends all understanding.
