The Gift of Becoming
"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." – 2 Corinthians 3:18
On Christmas Day, we’re used to focusing on the child in the manger; tiny, vulnerable, filled with promise. We see Him as a baby, wrapped in a blanket, sent to save the world. But what if Christmas isn’t just about Christ’s birth, but also about yours? About the birth of something new in you, something that God Himself is bringing to life?
Christmas is a celebration of transformation. The Son of God entered our world so that we, too, might enter a new life. When Jesus became human, He bridged the gap between heaven and earth, stepping into our brokenness so we could step into His wholeness. And today, He invites you to do just that—not merely to celebrate His arrival, but to allow that arrival to spark something in you that wasn’t there before. Just as He became like us, we are being made to become like Him.
This isn’t a transformation that happens overnight. It’s an invitation to begin right here and now. A journey of becoming, one degree of glory to the next. Imagine, on this Christmas Day, that God isn’t asking you to be perfect or to have it all figured out. He’s simply asking you to make room, just as Mary and Joseph did, in the humble, unexpected places of your heart.
What does this mean in practical terms? Maybe it means letting go of an old grudge, softening a hardened heart, or choosing love where resentment has grown. It’s a gentle start, and it’s between you and God, who is faithful to complete what He begins in you. The miracle of Christmas is not only that Christ came, but that He came to change us, to invite us into a life we may not have dared to imagine on our own.
This Christmas Day, consider what new thing God might be birthing in you. The true gift of this season is the chance to become more like Christ, to grow in love and humility, and to reflect the glory of the One who came not only to change the world but to transform every heart willing to say, “Yes, Lord, let it begin in me.”
