Following the Right Path
"When they saw the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy." - Matthew 2:9-10
The wise men traveled a long distance, following a star that guided them toward something far greater than themselves. Their journey was filled with uncertainty and risk, but they pressed on with one goal in mind: to honor the newborn King.
Their story invites us to reflect on our own paths in life. Like the wise men, we each have moments where we set out toward a goal, but sometimes the road is unclear, or the destination feels uncertain. It’s easy to get distracted by detours, false signs, or pressures from others along the way, but the key is staying focused on the guiding light, just as the star guided the wise men.
When they saw the star stop, they were filled with joy. This moment of clarity and discovery marked the culmination of their journey, and it reminds us that following the right path leads to joy and fulfillment. How many times do we find ourselves chasing after things that promise satisfaction but leave us empty?
The wise men didn’t let their journey be defined by the distractions around them, they kept their eyes on the star. And when they arrived at their destination, they found exactly what they were seeking: the Savior.
Your journey might not be as clear-cut as you hope, and there may be moments when you feel lost or overwhelmed but take heart. The same God who guided the wise men to Jesus is guiding you today. Pay attention to the signs, the moments of clarity, and the small joys that come when you’re on the right path. Don’t let the distractions pull you off course or lead you to places that can’t fulfill you.
Just like the wise men offered their gifts in reverence, we, too, can offer our lives, our time, and our hearts as gifts to the King. In doing so, we find the joy and peace that comes from following Him, no matter how long the road may seem. And when you find yourself at a crossroads, remember that God will lead you in another way, just as He did for the wise men. Keep following the right star, and let it fill you with joy.
