Release It to God
"Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7
One of the hardest things to do in life is to release control. We often center ourselves on situations we can't manage and try to solve problems that are beyond us. But for the Christian, Peter offers a clear solution: release it to God. He tells us to “cast all your anxieties on Him” because God cares for us.
The people Peter was writing to were dealing with immense challenges—trials, persecution, and suffering. They began to wonder if God even cared about their situation, thinking that if life was hard, maybe God had abandoned them.
Peter interrupts this false thinking, reminding them that their circumstances aren’t a reflection of God’s love. Even in the hardest of times, God still cares. Because of that care, we can throw our anxieties onto Him, trusting that He will carry them.
Peter’s use of the word "cast" here is important. It means to throw it down and leave it there. Just like when I first learned how to fish as a kid, I would cast my line into the water but kept reeling it back in because I was impatient. My father told me that if I wanted to catch anything, I needed to leave the line in the water and trust the process.
Many of us do the same with our worries, we give them to God but keep taking them back because we’re anxious or impatient. Peter tells us to give it all to God and leave it there, knowing that He cares deeply for us.
God’s care is constant. The Psalmist reminds us that God “neither slumbers nor sleeps.” If God is staying up all night, watching over us, there’s no reason for us to stay up worrying. God has it under control.
God is asking you to do the same, let Him in. Let Him into your marriage, your career decisions, and your financial worries. Release your anxieties to Him, and trust that He cares enough to handle what you cannot.
