Leveling Up in Faith
"I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:14
If you grew up playing video games in the '80s and '90s, you know the thrill of advancing from one level to the next. Whether it was Tetris, Super Mario, Donkey Kong, or Frogger, each game followed the same pattern, progressing through increasingly difficult stages. The key to success was mastering each level, no matter how hard it became. You'd fight bosses, find hidden clues, collect treasures, and gain more experience as you "leveled up."
As the levels got tougher, so did your skills. And even though the challenges increased, the sense of accomplishment that came with beating each stage made it all worth it. Video games became a metaphor for life itself. This idea of "leveling up" started to be used in everyday conversations. Whether it's sports, business, or personal growth, "leveling up" is all about advancing toward a goal, getting better with every step, and overcoming challenges as you go.
In our spiritual journey, the same concept applies. God calls us to keep moving forward, to keep "leveling up" in our faith. But this isn't about gaining points or experience, it's about growing closer to Him, learning to trust Him more, and becoming more like Christ. The deeper you go in your relationship with God, the more you’ll find new challenges, new opportunities, and new areas where He wants you to grow. And while the process may get harder as you advance, the reward is greater too.
Philippians 3:14 reminds us to press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Following Jesus is a journey of continual growth. Like a video game, each new stage in life brings its own set of challenges, but it’s through those challenges that you develop and grow stronger in your faith. You "level up" by trusting God more deeply, by surrendering more completely, and by stepping into the challenges He places before you.
Just like in those old video games, the key is to keep moving forward. Don’t stop when things get hard. Don’t give up when the challenges feel overwhelming. Press on, knowing that with each step, you are leveling up in your faith, growing stronger, and moving closer to the prize of the upward call in Christ Jesus.
God is inviting you to go deeper, to grow stronger, and to step into the next stage He has for you. Are you ready to "level up"?
