Give Contagiously
“And they came, everyone whose heart was stirred and everyone whose spirit was willing, and brought the LORD’s offering to be used for the tent of meeting and for all its service and for the sacred vestments.” - Exodus 35:21
In Exodus chapters 35 and 36, the repeated use of words like “every,” “all,” and “each” highlights a powerful reality: the spirit of giving among the Israelites was nothing short of contagious.
Over and over, the text emphasizes that every person, with a willing heart, contributed to the building of the sanctuary. It wasn’t just a few people; it was a community-wide effort. Each person, whether skilled or not, brought their best to the task—gold, silver, bronze, precious cloths, and even their talents as tailors and carpenters.
Imagine the energy and enthusiasm that filled the air. This wasn’t just about giving; it was about a collective joy and eagerness to contribute to something bigger than themselves. They weren’t just taking from the community, they were giving back, fueled by the goodness and grace of God that had transformed their lives.
This kind of contagious giving is a powerful testament to what happens when a community unites with a shared purpose. They knew that their contributions were not just building a physical structure but were part of something far greater, the glory of the Lord filling the tabernacle.
In Exodus 40:34-35, we see the culmination of their efforts: “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.” The result was so overwhelming that Moses couldn’t even enter the sanctuary. This is what happens when we give with a willing heart—when we contribute convincingly, consistently, confidently, and contagiously. The work is done for God’s glory, and the outcome is His presence filling every part of our efforts.
As you consider your own contributions, ask yourself: Am I giving just to fulfill a duty, or am I giving with a contagious enthusiasm that reflects my desire for God’s glory?
It’s not about seeking recognition or fame, it’s about pouring our hearts into God’s work because we want to see His glory manifested. When we align our giving with this purpose, we become part of a community that supports God’s work wholeheartedly, and we will find ourselves in a place of more than enough.
