Trusting in God's Promises
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:9
Trust is essential in every area of our lives. Think about it, you trust that the money you deposit in the bank will be there when you need it. You go to work each day not just because you enjoy your job, but because you trust that you'll be paid at the end of the week. In relationships, trust is the foundation that allows you to share your hopes, dreams, and fears with someone else.
One of the most famous songs from Motown's history is the Jackson Five's ll Be There. The lyrics promise, "You can trust me to be there for you." This song became a hit not just because of its melody, but because it touched on a deep truth, we all long for someone we can trust to be there when we need them most. Imagine if the lyrics were, Maybe I'll be there, or maybe I won't. I might not answer when you call. It wouldn't have resonated at all because trust is built on the certainty that someone will be there when they say they will.
In Joshua 1:9, God makes a promise to His people as they prepare to enter a new and uncertain phase of their lives: Be strong and courageous...for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. This wasn't just a pep talk”it was a promise. The same God who had been with them through their journey in the wilderness was promising to be with them in the battles ahead. God's words weren't vague or uncertain; they were clear and definite.
You can trust in God's promises just as the people of Israel did. When God says He will be with you, He means it. He doesn't say, Maybe I'll be there,'or I might show up if I'm not too busy. He says, will be with you wherever you go. That's a promise you can depend on.
As you face your own challenges and uncertainties, remember that God is someone you can trust. His promises are reliable, and His presence is constant. Just as the people of Israel trusted in God's word as they entered the Promised Land, you can trust in His word as you navigate your own journey. Trust Him to be there for you”because He always will be.
