Redeemed And Set Free
"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace," - Ephesians 1:
The concept of redemption is central to understanding our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 1:7, Paul reminds us that "in him [Christ] we have redemption through his blood." This statement carries serious significance—it speaks of a transaction, a payment made on our behalf that sets us free from the bondage of sin.
Under the Old Covenant, sin required the shedding of blood for forgiveness. Animals were sacrificed as a temporary measure to atone for sins, but their blood could never fully cleanse humanity. It took the perfect, unblemished sacrifice of Jesus Christ—the Lamb of God—to permanently settle our debt of sin. His death on the cross was not just a historical event; it was a divine act of redemption, where His blood paid the price that we could never pay on our own.
When we sing, "What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!" we are declaring our reliance on Christ's sacrificial death. His blood cleanses us completely, freeing us from guilt and shame, and restoring us to right relationship with God.
The story of AJ Gordon and the young boy with the cage of birds vividly illustrates this truth. The boy saw the birds as worthless, destined to be fed to a cat. But when Gordon offered to buy them, he paid a price that transformed their fate. In releasing those birds, Gordon demonstrated how Christ's redemption sets us free from the captivity of sin. Just as those birds were set free and given value by the price paid for them, so are we redeemed and given new life through Jesus' sacrifice.
You and I were once captive to sin, trapped in its grip with no way to escape. But through Christ's redeeming work on the cross, we have been set free. We are no longer defined by our past mistakes or held back by guilt and condemnation. Instead, we stand forgiven, washed clean by the blood of Jesus, and empowered to live in the freedom and grace He
Consider the price Jesus paid for your freedom. Understand the truth that you are forgiven, loved, and valued by God. Let His redemption empower you to live boldly, knowing that you are a cherished child of God, set free to walk in His light and truth.
