Life is Not Perfect
"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." - 2 Corinthians 12:9
Life is not perfect. We see this when we look at one of Jesus’ disciples, Judas. The reason many people get thrown off by the selection of Judas is because they think that a perfect, all-knowing God ought to be able to create a perfect situation to fulfill His perfect plan.
They struggle to understand why Jesus would create a situation that wasn’t flawless from the start. But the point isn't that we should allow broken people to ruin our lives, but rather to recognize that life isn’t always going to be perfect.
We don’t get to have the perfect family, the perfect spouse, work at the perfect job, raise the perfect children, attend the perfect church, serve in the perfect ministry, live in the perfect neighborhood, have the perfect friends, live in a perfect nation, or exist in a perfect world.
God doesn’t want us to think that the only way to succeed in life is to have everything looking pristine and ideal. Because if you think that way, when imperfection shows up, you’ll struggle and think something is wrong with yourself, with other people, or with God.
Jesus chose Judas to signal that life is not perfect and that when—not if—imperfection shows up, we get to decide what we can tolerate and just how much we can handle. But not only that, Jesus is showing us that people are not perfect either.
Life is full of imperfections, and that’s okay. Our strength and our faith grow not in the absence of challenges but through them. God’s grace is sufficient for us, and His power is made perfect in our weakness. When we accept that life and people are not perfect, we open ourselves up to the grace and strength that God provides.
So, next time you face a situation or a person that isn’t perfect, remember that Jesus intentionally chose an imperfect disciple like Judas to show us that perfection isn’t the goal. Instead, lean into God’s grace, which is more than enough to carry you through any imperfection. Trust that He is working through the messy, imperfect parts of life to grow you, strengthen you, and fulfill His perfect plan for you.
