Our Role as Light Bearers
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." - Matthew 5:14
In a world overshadowed by moral failings, debates, and struggles, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by darkness. Headlines are filled with the shortcomings of clergy, trivial debates, and societal challenges. Yet, in the midst of this darkness, the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount echo through time: "You are the light of the world."
These words are both challenging and inspiring. They remind us that despite the darkness that surrounds us, we have been called to be bearers of light. From God's perspective, darkness does not have the final say. It may evoke fear and doubt, but it does not determine the outcome. As light bearers, we have the power to push back against the darkness and lead the world to where it needs to be.
Just as Jesus spoke to His followers on the hillside, He speaks to us today, reminding us of the impact we are called to make. When we made the decision to follow Him, we became light in a dark world. This metaphor speaks to the profound influence believers should have on the world around us.
We are not called to hide our light or shrink back in the face of darkness. Instead, we are called to shine brightly, illuminating the path for others and bringing hope where there is despair. Like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden, our light is meant to be seen by all, guiding them toward truth and love.
I want to encourage you to allow the light of Christ to shine through you, dispelling darkness and bringing transformation to our world. As we shine our light brightly, others will be drawn to the hope and love found in Jesus Christ.
