Finding Your Purpose in Christ
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." - Matthew 5:13
Have you ever pondered your purpose in life, in ministry, or in the kingdom of God? It's a question that often weighs heavily on the hearts of believers as we seek to understand our role and contribution. But perhaps the key to discovering our purpose lies in knowing who we are in Christ.
Imagine walking into a friend's house and spotting a hammer. Without hesitation, you know its purpose – to drive nails. Similarly, encountering a knife and fork in the kitchen immediately signals their function – for eating. These items don't need elaborate explanations because their purpose has been determined by their maker.
Likewise, if we grasp who we are and what we're called to be in God's Kingdom, finding our purpose becomes clearer. But let's not confuse purpose with profession. Our kingdom purpose isn't solely about our careers; it's about understanding our role in God's plan.
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus laid out a foundational truth for His followers, saying that we are the salt of the earth. This statement isn't about the job you have or your professional title; it's about your identity as a disciple of Christ.
Just as salt adds flavor and preserves, we, as followers of Jesus, are called to bring flavor to the world and preserve the truth of His gospel. Our purpose is to reflect the character of Christ in all aspects of our lives, regardless of our profession.
Understanding our identity as disciples empowers us to fulfill our kingdom assignment. It's about living out the values of the Kingdom of God – love, grace, compassion, and justice – in everything we do.
So, if you find yourself searching for your purpose, start by seeking to understand who you are in Christ. As you embrace your identity as a disciple, your kingdom assignment will become clearer. You are the salt of the earth, called to bring flavor and preserve God's truth in a world hungry for purpose and meaning.
