Keeping Your Eyes on God
"I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth." - Psalm 121:1-2
In times of grief and loss, it can be easy to become consumed by our circumstances and to lose sight of God's presence in our lives. However, the story of King David reminds us of the importance of maintaining a solid relationship with God, even in the midst of our darkest moments.
When David faced the loss of his child, he didn't allow his grief to drive a wedge between him and God. Instead, he continued to seek God's presence through prayer, fasting, and worship. David's relationship with God was not based on the condition that God would give him what he desired. Instead, it was built on a foundation of trust and faithfulness.
Many people approach their relationship with God as a transactional exchange, believing that if they pray, serve, or worship, God will be obligated to fulfill their desires. However, David's example teaches us that true faith is not about manipulating God to get what we want. It's about trusting in His goodness and sovereignty, even when things don't go according to our plans.
David's ability to worship God in the midst of his grief demonstrates the true measure of faith. It's easy to praise God when we're experiencing blessings and favor, but the test of our faith comes when we're faced with trials and hardships. Can we still worship God when we're in the valley, surrounded by obstacles and opposition?
Just like Daniel in the lion's den, we are called to keep our eyes fixed on God, regardless of our circumstances. Instead of focusing on the ferocious lions of life's challenges, we should lift our eyes to the mountains and remember that our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
If you're feeling down or overwhelmed by grief today, remember to keep your eyes on God. Don't allow your circumstances to dictate your faith. Instead, trust in His faithfulness and let His light guide you through the darkness. As you continue to seek God's presence and worship Him in spirit and in truth, you will find strength, comfort, and hope to face whatever lies ahead.
