Keep Looking Up When You're Feeling Down
"Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead," - Philippians 3:13
In the midst of life's challenges, we often find ourselves instinctively looking down, focusing on the dangers and threats that surround us. Our minds are wired to seek out potential harm, but sometimes, this inclination can hinder our progress and prevent us from moving forward. However, the call to "keep looking up" invites us to shift our perspective and fix our gaze on the possibilities that lie ahead.
When faced with adversity, whether it be loss, disappointment, or failure, it's natural to dwell on the past—to look down at what we've lost, what went wrong, and what we lack. But as followers of Christ, we are called to rise above the turmoil and set our sights on the hope that awaits us.
In the story of King David's response to the death of his child, we see a powerful example of how to keep looking up when we're feeling down. Despite experiencing profound grief and heartache, David refuses to succumb to despair. Instead, he demonstrates resilience and faith in the face of adversity.
David's refusal to walk in judgment and condemnation is a testament to his unwavering trust in God's sovereignty. Rather than dwelling on his past mistakes or the circumstances that led to his loss, David chooses to embrace the new opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead. He understands that looking up means letting go of what's behind and pressing forward toward the future that God has in store.
As followers of Christ, we can learn from David's example and adopt a similar mindset when navigating life's challenges. Instead of allowing our circumstances to dictate our outlook, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith. Let us remember that our hope is not found in our past or present circumstances but in the promise of a future filled with God's grace and goodness.
When you find yourself feeling down, overwhelmed by grief, or weighed down by disappointment, remember to keep looking up. Trust in God's faithfulness, lean on His strength, and press forward with confidence, knowing that He is always with you, guiding you through every trial and leading you toward a future filled with hope.
