A Path to Healing
"Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." - Psalm 139:23-24
Have you ever held onto an emotion for so long that it felt like a weight dragging you down? Today, we're exploring the importance of releasing our core emotions as a crucial step toward healing and wholeness.
Imagine emotions as fruits on a tree – jealousy, insecurity, bitterness, vengefulness – these are just the visible fruits of deeper roots. These toxic emotions are not the root cause of our struggles; they are merely symptoms of years of suppression and unaddressed pain.
Within each of us lies a wounded inner child, still carrying the burdens of childhood and teenage traumas. These emotions, buried deep within, continue to affect our thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. But it's never too late to release them.
To release these emotions is to resource ourselves – to find comfort, support, and validation in healthy ways. It's like going to the gym to release outrage or taking a walk to process sadness. It's finding solace in worship and praise, allowing the energy of our core emotions to be discharged.
David, in the Psalms, often turned to worship and praise during times of distress and grief. In doing so, he found a release for his emotions and a renewed sense of peace.
What can you do to release the energy of your core emotions? Find activities that bring you comfort and allow you to express yourself freely. Whether it's journaling, listening to music, or spending time in nature, find what works best for you.
There is an analogy from neuroscientist Dr. Caroline Leaf where she compared emotions to flatulence – holding them in can be painful, but it's essential to let them out in an appropriate and safe place. Just like flatulence, emotions are natural and should not be suppressed.
Don't hold it in any longer. Let out the tears, the sadness, the grief, the anger. Allow yourself to feel and release these emotions in a safe and healthy way. Remember, it's a natural part of the healing process.
