"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." - 2 Corinthians 4:17
Have you ever felt like you were pushing against an immovable boulder in your life, trying to make progress but finding it nearly impossible?
I once read a story of a man who received a divine directive in a dream, instructing him to go outside and push against a massive rock in his front yard. Day after day, he obeyed, exerting all his strength against the seemingly immovable boulder. Despite his unwavering efforts, the rock never budged, and the man grew increasingly frustrated.
One morning, exhausted and exasperated, the man fell to his knees and prayed, questioning God's purpose. He cried out, "Lord, I've been pushing this rock as hard as I can every morning, but it just won't move. What were You thinking?" In response, a voice from heaven said, "My son, I told you to 'push' the rock, not move it. I'm the only one who can move the rock, and I will do so in due time. For now, I want you to push against it."
Confused, the man looked at his hands, discovering calluses that had formed due to his relentless effort. He observed his forearms and the bulging muscles in his shoulders that had developed during his daily struggle. It was in that moment he realized that God had used the weight of the rock to help him gain physical strength he didn't know he possessed.
As the man contemplated the trials he had faced and the desire to accomplish his goals in life, he recognized the invaluable transformation that had taken place. He had become stronger, not just physically but also in character. The very rock he had been pushing against had been instrumental in his growth.
This story reminds us that God's purposes often go beyond the immediate results we seek. Our trials and challenges may feel insurmountable, but they are not in vain. Just as the man's persistent effort was preparing him for greater things, our struggles can be a means of strengthening us, shaping our character, and developing our faith.
The wait of our trials is not wasted; it is worth the weight. In our moments of frustration and doubt, remember that God is using these trials to achieve a greater purpose in our lives. The perseverance, resilience, and spiritual muscles we develop through our struggles will ultimately prepare us for the path God has set before us.
