The Dance of Confidence and Humility
"For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught." - Proverbs 3:26
In our journey of faith, we often encounter the paradox of confidence and humility. On the surface, these qualities might seem at odds with each other. Confidence is often associated with self-assuredness and boldness, while humility suggests meekness and a lowly heart. However, when we look to Christ as our example, we find that both confidence and humility can beautifully coexist.
True confidence, as a follower of Christ, arises from knowing who you are in Him. It's not about self-reliance but reliance on God's strength. Proverbs 3:26 reminds us that our confidence is in the Lord, who guards our steps and keeps us from stumbling. In Him, we can stand firm with unwavering assurance, not because of our abilities, but because of His faithfulness.
At the same time, humility keeps our confidence in check. Humility is not self-deprecation but a right understanding of our place in God's grand narrative. It's recognizing our need for God's guidance and grace. In 1 Peter 5:6, we're encouraged to humble ourselves under God's mighty hand, knowing that He will exalt us in due time. This humble posture allows us to maintain a proper perspective.
As Christians, our confidence should stem from knowing we are children of the Almighty God. We are heirs to His promises, and we can approach His throne with boldness, as Hebrews 4:16 tells us. This confidence empowers us to live out our faith, share the gospel, and stand firm in the face of challenges.
However, our humility reminds us that our strength comes from God alone. We don't boast in our achievements but in God's grace. We understand that we are fallible, and we need His guidance and correction. Humility keeps us open to growth and transformation.
It's time to embrace both confidence in Christ's promises and humility in recognizing our dependence on Him. This dynamic balance enables us to move forward in faith, courage, and love, becoming more like Jesus every day.
