Living Out God's Word in Your Choices
"Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls. But be doers of the word and not merely hearers who deceive themselves." - James 1:21-22
Every day, you face a multitude of choices, from the mundane to the life-altering. Each decision you make is an opportunity to live out God's Word. But how do you practically do that in your choices, both big and small?
Start by examining your motives. Before making a choice, ask yourself, "Is this aligned with God's will, or is it driven by selfishness, pride, or greed?" Rid yourself of any motives that do not reflect the values of love, compassion, and righteousness found in God's Word.
Next, invite God's Word to be your guide. Spend time in prayer and study, so the teachings of Scripture become deeply rooted in your heart. When faced with a decision, consult the Bible and seek wisdom from its pages. Let it illuminate your path.
To be a doer of the Word as James says means acting in accordance with God's principles. If you're grappling with a significant decision, consider what Jesus would do in your situation. Would He show forgiveness, extend grace, or choose humility? Model your choices after His example.
Finally, choose love and compassion. Love is at the core of God's message. In your choices, prioritize love for God, love for others, and love for yourself. When faced with a difficult decision involving others, ask yourself, "What choice reflects love, understanding, and empathy?"
Your choices should reflect your faith, even when no one is watching. Let honesty and integrity be your companions in decision-making. Uphold your commitments, speak the truth, and act with honor.
In significant decisions, seek counsel from trusted mentors or fellow believers. Proverbs 15:22 tells us, "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed." Don't hesitate to reach out for guidance.
Finally, remember the power of prayer. Seek God's guidance through prayer, and trust that He will direct your steps. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Living out God's Word in your choices is a daily journey, but it's one that brings you closer to the heart of God. With each decision you make, may you reflect the love, wisdom, and grace found in His Word.
