Don't Let People Define Character
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” - Galatians 5:22-23
Is your character consistent? Are you able to display the same character no matter what is happening around you? If you are a child of God, someone who has given their life to Jesus, then God has called you to live life with consistent character.
To live a life with consistent character there are three things you must separate from your character: people, circumstances, and fear. We are going to look at each of these over the next three days.
First, your character must be set apart from the world’s. This is not easy to do. People will cheat you, lie to you, manipulate you, anger you, frustrate you, take advantage of you, and do anything they need for their own personal gain.
This may cause us to want to repay “an eye for an eye” or reciprocate the behavior that we have received. But God has called us to remain consistent in our character, even when those around us do not remain consistent in theirs.
What does it mean to have consistent character. The Apostle Paul highlights in Galatians 5:22-23 what that looks like for a child of God, through the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Your character isn’t dictated by people. Regardless of what other do to you, you have the power to not let them affect your character.
If you want to be obedient to God, stay consistent in character. Model your character after Jesus Christ and don’t let people change that.
