Consistent Character
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” - Romans 12:2
Over the last week, we have discussed what it means to be successful in God’s way. What we must understand as believers is that success for us is defined differently than the way the world defines it.
While the world pursues status, fame, and material gain, God wants us to pursue obedience to His plan. He has created us for a specific plan and purpose, and our success is defined by how obedient we are to that plan.
So how can you be obedient to God’s plan? It starts with being consistent with your character. As you grow in Christ, your character should begin to look more and more like the character of Jesus Christ. This does not mean that you will mess up from time to time, but your character should not be something that is inconsistent.
Anybody can be a good person when things are going their way. Giving money to the poor is a lot easier when you have a lot of money. Being happy is a lot easier when you get a promotion and have gotten in a new relationship. But what about when something doesn’t go your way? What about when you get cheated or taken advantage of or lose everything you hold dear?
Do you have the same character? Paul was placed in jail for his faith, and yet his character never wavered. Do not let your character change with the wind. Instead, root yourself in God’s Word, allow Him to transform you, and be consistent in who you are.
What makes us different as believers is that we do not have to change based on the people or circumstances around us. God wants you to live with a consistent character no matter what is taking place around you.
