"I’m Good"
“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.” - 2 Corinthians 7:10
When I think about the issue of missed opportunities, one thing that comes to mind for me is this story told by one product executive at a prominent tech company. In a staff meeting, everyone was asked, “What’s an experience in life that you would later regret?”
And when it was his turn, the executive shared how in 1997, as a student, he participated in a Harvard Business School case study competition where entrepreneurs would come in to pitch their business ideas for students to provide feedback.
One day, an entrepreneur pitched his idea of selling books online. Most of the students thought it was an outrageous idea. But one student thought it was a good one, and he submitted a positive review of the idea.
The professor saw the student’s paper and suggested that he give the entrepreneur a ride to the airport, but the student declined, saying he was too busy, had a lot going on, and was running late for something else.
When he said no, his good friend stepped up and accepted the offer and took the entrepreneur, whose name was Jeff, to the airport. During the ride, the two bonded, became very close, and the entrepreneur ended up asking the student’s friend to work for the company selling books online.
That “Jeff” was Jeff Bezos, and his company was Amazon. What started as just a car ride led to the student’s friend eventually going on to create a company you might have heard of, called Hulu. The student who declined the ride, who was now a product executive at a company, said “Now if anyone asks me to take them to the airport, I take them.”
One of the worst things you can do is look back and regret something you should have done but didn’t; especially if God has called you to something that you turn down because you think your plan is better. Don’t look back and wish you had followed Him. Make the choice now because you will never regret obedience to Him!
