Hope Gives Us Access
“Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” - Romans 5:2
Godly hope is not just wishful thinking. It is not a groundless expectation. It is based upon the sure promises that God has given us in His Word; promises to be in us and promises to be for us. And when our lives are anchored in godly hope – in that which is stable, secure, and safe – we gain access to God’s help and God’s presence.
Godly hope is God’s answer to life’s afflictions. Paul says in Romans 5:2-4, “Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. “Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope...”
Godly hope is the byproduct of affliction because it is in affliction for the child of God that we encounter God’s presence and receive God’s help. Think about it, there has probably been a time in your life when life was going great. You might have had the perfect job, your dream partner, and you were living the life. It is easy to think we don’t need God’s help in these times.
But if you lose one of these things, your perspective may change. It is in affliction that we as believers are quick to turn to God because we realize we can’t fix things on our own. This is what separates believers from nonbelievers; we can have hope in the midst of affliction because of the access we have to God’s help and God’s presence.
Maybe you are in the middle of affliction right now. Maybe there are things going on in your life that you just can’t seem to figure out the solution to. If that’s you, then hold on, my friend because your Heavenly Father is with you. And as His child, you can hold strong to the hope He gives through the access to His help and presence!
