Are You a Worrier?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
Do you find yourself worrying a lot? Maybe you struggle to fall asleep at night because you are constantly thinking about things that could go wrong. You worry about your kids, your spouse, your job, your financial situation, and even the weather. You say you trust in God, and yet you are always worrying.
There is a quote by Craig Groeschel that says, “What you fear the most often reveals where you trust God the least.” Now for many, that might seem like a punch in the gut or a harsh reality. But that is exactly what it is: REALITY.
When we worry, we are failing to trust God. Have you ever heard someone say “Yeah, I trust God, BUT...” Stop right there. If you trust God, there are no “buts.” To trust means “a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.”
Is God reliable? Does He tell the truth? Does He have the “ability” and “strength” to work in your circumstances? If you are a believer, you know the answer to all of those questions is a resounding “YES!”
So why are you still worrying?
The Bible instructs us not to worry. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
My friend, you cannot be both a person of faith and a worrier. It is like being a Duke and North Carolina basketball fan. A Yankees and a Red Sox fan. You cannot do both. If you have faith, you are not worried because faith is trusting that God is in control.
And if God is in control, what are you worried about?
