Don’t Go Back!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17
We have all struggled with sin, and been freed from it, just to find ourselves right back where we started. Some people struggle with their past, others struggle with making poor decisions in relationships and daily activities, and some struggle with impatience or unforgiveness.
The new year is when many make resolutions to change their lifestyle for the better. However, by the end of January, many of those efforts have been abandoned.
Satan tried to tempt Jesus, knowing that he had been weak after fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. However, instead of relying on his own strength, he relied on the Word of God. Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God…. Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve” (Matthew 4: 4,10).
There may be an area of your life where you feel like you have backslid. However, if you fall seven times, the important thing is that you get up eight times. You cannot give up. It takes prayer, fasting, worship, and even therapy to get to a place where those former things no longer have a hold on you.
As 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” When you repent, you are asking for forgiveness and sincerely choosing to make a change in your life.
The good news is that God loves us enough to want to save us. Jesus was nailed to the Cross. He was beaten. He was mocked. And He was eventually killed. He died for you and me. He died so that we would have freedom over the things of this world. You have been set free. So now is the time to say to yourself, “Don’t go back!”
