Chief of Happiness
“You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.”- 16:11
Did you know that many companies are hiring Chief Happiness Officers (CHO) to fulfill the role of ensuring employees’ emotional well-being in the workplace. Their goal is to maintain high worker retention rates and morale, as well as build trust in the organization.
They do this by consistently meeting with employees and polling them to obtain their “happiness” level. In doing this, the company seeks to improve its overall productivity and efficiency. It is a tall order to ensure that those in the organization stay happy.
Happiness is a fleeting sentiment based on one’s feelings in the moment. However, God promises us joy which is deeply rooted in our faith in Christ. Happiness is like a thermometer, which changes with the surrounding temperature. However, joy is like a thermostat, setting the temperature, regardless of what is occurring on the outside.
God promised us joy when He sent His only begotten son to die on the cross for our salvation. He knew that there would be suffering in this life. He knew that there would be times when we would feel anxious, depressed, unmotivated, or unhappy.
He knew that us resting in His presence would be the only way to find peace in this world. And that is the goal—to spend time in the presence of God. To learn ways to successfully cope and navigate this life, to become effective disciples for the Most High.
The journey may not be easy, but it is worth it. Happiness is great, but joy is what will sustain us in the dark times. Pray to God that He fills you with joy so that no matter what is going on around you, you are content and have peace within.
