The Whole Thing
“A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.“ - Acts 2:42-45
Acts 2 shows us that after the Spirit of God moved and the church started speaking in languages that those on the outside could understand, something interesting happened. Peter preached a sermon in verses 14-36 that spoke to people’s hearts.
During his message, 3,000 people heard the Word of God, got baptized and saved, started going to Bible study, fellowshipped with one another, got involved in ministry, and started giving financially to enable the church to touch other people’s lives. It was really powerful.
This is how Acts 2:42-47 describes it, “A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.
They worshipped together at the temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.”
Because the disciples had enough faith to do church differently, people came looking to connect with them. That is the key because in this new season of ministry, it is important to realize that technology might reach us, but it is not sufficient to keep us. It is like seeing the preview of a really good movie. It is good to provoke your interest, but after that, you really want to see the whole thing.
The church must be digital. It must be downloadable. People must be able to access the Word, worship, and the church’s witness online. But that is not the whole thing. The whole thing includes being in the presence of God where you can fellowship with other believers, become a tither to support the church’s ministry, and use the gifts God has given you. Are you ready to engage in the whole experience?
