Why Do I Need The Church?
“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” - Hebrews 10:25
“Why do I need the church?” It is an interesting question many people are asking. If your doctor, job, and school are now looking for creative and convenient ways to enable you to do it from home, then why come to the building? You can date online, shop online, and be educated online.
Why is it necessary for you to come to church when so much out there is changing the way we live, communicate, and conduct our daily lives? A senior recently said to me that she didn’t see the need any longer to gather in person because now she can stay at home in her pajamas, drink her coffee, and just watch worship from the comforts and confines of her couch.
This response from a seasoned saint revealed to me how drastically things have changed. And so, I think it is appropriate for us to ask and seek the Word of God for counsel on why it is necessary and beneficial to come to church.
This is not to say that watching online should not be an option. It has its place, but why take the time to get up, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, drive here, and deal with traffic, when you can just relax and recline at home?
It is a question that just a cursory search on Google reveals that many people both inside and outside the church are already wondering about. What we will find in the next couple of days is the importance and value the church still has.
What we will find is the church is important because it is where we encounter the person of Jesus Christ, and it shows us how to experience the power of Jesus. Over the next two days, we are going to look deeper into both of these important reasons that show why going to church is still not only a good option, but a necessary option! As believers, we ALL NEED the church!
