Work on Your Weakness
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” - Isaiah 40:29
After you identify your weakness, you must reduce your susceptibility to that weakness. If you read the story of Abraham in Genesis 20, you cannot ignore the fact that for the first time Abraham has moved to a new community, and yet, he failed to construct an alter as was his custom.
Every time Abraham moved, every time he encountered a challenge, every time he entered a new season or storm, he built an altar and sought the face of God. But he had been in this new place for quite some time, and he still hadn’t constructed an altar, which suggests that perhaps Abraham became comfortable where he was.
Perhaps he had become complacent in his faith journey. Perhaps he felt everything was good. And right when he thought nothing could happen, it did. Right when he was at his strongest, his weakness kicked in.It was that miscalculation, the assumption that everything was all right, that caused him to become susceptible to his old ways.
You may have become spiritually complacent. Therefore, you don’t pray like you used to pray. You don’t worship like you used to worship. You’re not in the Word like you used to be. And at the point when you stop strengthening yourself spiritually, you become vulnerable to the very things that can bring you down.
Even though Abraham advanced beyond the time when he was Abram, even though he knew God personally and believes God, he slipped because he didn’t work on the areas of his weakness. He started to slack off. He became casual and cavalier in his walk and got too comfortable, and eventually, he repeated the same mistake again.
Yesterday we asked the question, what is your weakness? Today I ask you, what do you need to do to become spiritually fortified? There are moments in our lives when everything seems good. But these are the times the devil tempts us because he knows our defenses are down.
God can strengthen you. Isaiah 40:29 says, “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” He will give you the power you need, but first, you must be willing to work for it. Seek God today so that you are not vulnerable to your weakness, tomorrow!
