Not Ours Anyway
“If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” - Matthew 10:39
On their spring break vacation, my daughters were fussing with one another, and they were taking each other’s phones. As they were yelling who owns what, I came into the room and took both of their phones. In that moment, I said to them, “It’s not yours anyway. These belong to me. I just let you use them. I pay the bills, I get them fixed, and I pay the price.”
This is something all believers need to hear when it comes to our “possessions.” The truth is, we don’t own anything that is ours; it is all God’s. We often what to hoard our time, talents, dreams and desires, money, and possessions on ourselves because we believe that it is ours. But everything that we have and everything we are comes by the grace and mercy of the Lord; and sometimes he must take away that which we have invested so much time and energy, to remind us that it is not ours anyway.
See, when you are clear about where your blessings come from, when you know that all you are and all that you have comes from the Lord, it is not a struggle to give back to the Master what came from the Master.
Do you struggle to give back to God? No matter what it is, it all belongs to God anyway. It was never yours. He just wants to know that you are willing to give it back. And just remember that you can never go wrong giving to advance God’s will.
