Look To The Mountains
“When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, ‘Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!’” - Genesis 19:17
One thing we must remember as believers is that whatever God requires us to leave pales in comparison to what He’s preparing up ahead. This is in part why the angel tells them, “don’t look back” or hesitate along the way or they would be “swept away” in the valley.
One cannot go forward, continuing to look in the rearview mirror. In order to successfully make some headway, you’ve got to keep your eyes ahead, with your focus on the windshield in front of you, and your eyes fixed on the assignment ahead of you. Sometimes the best thing you can do is keep moving forward.
Take that big leap of faith forward without hesitation, without once looking back. Simply forget the past and forge ahead toward the future. If you have been debating some major issue, some major decision, and your dilemma comes from the fact that you are stuck on the experiences you have had, do not let those experiences hold you hostage.
God’s got something greater up ahead. Greater is calling YOU. That is what Genesis 19:17 tells us, “When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, ‘Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!’”
The angels told them to get to the mountains because the mountains are a metaphor for what is elevated, that which is up high. Where they were was a low elevation, and to avoid impending doom, they had to look to the mountains and get to higher ground.
Anything that is low you should want to escape from. Escape from low self-esteem, low people, low energy activities. God wants you to look to the mountains. Get to the next level! Rise up and go higher! You can’t do that looking back. So instead, look to the mountains, and run! God wants to elevate you, today!
