Wasted Time
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” - Isaiah 43:18-19
Yesterday, I told you the story of a bald eagle hunting a large salmon above the water. The smart and highly skilled eagle was able to secure the salmon with its talons, but only to the eagle’s demise. The eagle was not able to carry the weight of the salmon and drowned as a result.
I asked the question yesterday, what is your salmon? What is holding you back from flying? What is weighing you down to the point that you can’t get above sea level? You probably were able to identify your “salmon” pretty quickly. Whether it is an addiction, a bad habit, a rotten relationship, or memories from the past, it’s weighing you down.
God wants you to LET IT GO. Had the eagle let go of the salmon, he would have been able to fly effortlessly and freely. God wants you to fly. He wants you to return to the sky. He wants you to return to the purpose and plan He intends for you to live out. But you can’t do that while holding on to your salmon.
Isaiah 43:18-19 tells us, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
We know that we need to give it up and let it go. But what happens if we don’t? Those are consequences we do not want to bare. Our key verse says the Lord is “making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
If you do not let go, you will remain in the wilderness; you will continue to find yourself in the wasteland…wasting time. Whatever it is that you have identified as your salmon is keeping you from the life you want to live, and the life God wants you to live. You can’t have both. You CAN leave the wasteland; you CAN fly again but you CAN’T fly and take the salmon. Do not waste your time holding on. God has too much in store for you if you just release!
