Cut It Out
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” - 1 John 1:9
Can you admit that you have something in your life that you need to release and let go? As I get older, my doctors have taught me that there are things I just can’t eat anymore. There are foods I could eat when I was younger that were totally fine, but now I must stay away from.
I want to make sure my blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and other levels are all within range, and I am finding that to stay healthy now, I can’t do and eat the things I once did. I used to be able to eat sweets and not worry about them showing up on my waistline; but now, I have to cut back or cut it out altogether.
I am realizing that the key to having a more prosperous future is realizing that there are just some things that I must let go. And this applies to more than food. 1 John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Because God is faithful, when we confess and cut negative things out of our lives, He will forgive us.
But it starts with cutting it out. What God does not approve of is continuous sin—doing the same thing time after time without repentance. And repentance is wanting to change, wanting to eliminate the sin from our lives.
There are activities and habits we participate in that are not good for us. Like sweets or desserts, they satisfy us in the moment, but the long-term consequences are not favorable. We live in a world that wants to give us quick fixes and short-term pleasures. And we often sacrifice the long-term benefits for short-term rewards.
But many of these things as mentioned in the Bible—lust, gluttony, greed, laziness, wrath, envy, and pride—are also against God’s will for our lives. We must be careful because these are the things that can get us off our destined path. If you are dabbling in something that you know is not in the will of God, cut it out now. There is no better time than now!
