Realize Your Own Limitations
“Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God.’” - Luke 18:27
At some point, everyone will face something that will make them feel stressed, nervous, or anxious. Numbers 11 gives us a great framework for how to navigate these times. Yesterday we discussed the importance of being honest with how we feel. Today, we will discuss how limitations are a chance for us to relinquish our control to God.
After being honest with God about his frustrations, Moses comes to a key conclusion. He realizes that he is trying to carry the weight of the Israelites alone. He realizes, “I can’t do this.” And while that might sound like a bad thing to some, it is actually a good thing.
God never told Moses to carry the weight of all these people by himself. He never told Moses to become responsible for other people’s fears, burdens, and responsibilities. God only told Moses to give leadership to their exodus from Egypt. Moses chooses to carry the burden of this nation of people by himself.
Sometimes, we tend to take on burdens God never asked us to bear. And perhaps God allowed this painful development to unfold for Moses so that he could realize his limitations. He was NOT God, and he was not expected to do what only God can do.
Oftentimes we get overwhelmed because we fail to realize our own limitations. I know you are a strong man or woman. I know you are smart, I know you think you have everything figured out, and I know you may feel that if you don’t get it done, no one will.
But some things you just cannot do alone. In Luke 18:27, Jesus tells Peter, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Sometimes you’re going to have to realize your own limitations, and that is okay! Just give it to God from there.
