No Remote To Life
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - Matthew 6:34
Yesterday, we talked about a man who said that life is not like a VHS. For those too young to know what a VHS is, life is not like live TV. There is no remote control. You cannot fast forward, rewind, or pause the time you are in. A lot of people go wrong because they live in a different time than the present.
For some, it is the past. They are constantly recollecting on what you used to be. They think back to the happiest moments they ever had and wish for them again. They might spend time calling those in their childhood or past friends whom they experienced great moments with. But they worry their life will never be as great as it used to be, and so they constantly take their mind to that time in life.
For others, it is the future. They long for what can be. Though it is not here yet, they do not think about the process of getting there. They skip the journey and only imagine the destination. This is where many people fantasize. They think about days when they will have their dream car, dream spouse, and dream home. They imagine where they will live and what they will do.
The problem in both cases is the same: what you’re thinking about is not where you are right now. God does not want you to spend your time thinking about the way things used to be, or just imagining the way they might be one day in the future. It is great that you have had wonderful times to look back at. It is also great to have a vision and goals for where you want to go in the future. But be careful not to forget the present moment.
Matthew 6:34 tells us, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its now.” While Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” God does not desire that you spend the majority of your time in the past or future, but that you concern yourself with His plan for your life right now!
