Power Made Perfect In Weakness
“David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head…All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s and he will give all of you into our hands.” - 1 Samuel 17:45-47
What has the world told us about “strength?” Strength is having big muscles so that no one can mess with you. Strength is being tough so that no one can break you. Strength is in money, power, influence, and a following. Those who are strong on social media have their whole lives together.
They have the perfect family. They get to travel the world with endless money, drive luxury cars and stay at luxurious spots. They have millions of followers, and it all seems to come so easy to them. That is strength.
But what if it isn’t? We think of strength as what we can produce ourselves. And when we can’t produce it, we find ways to run.
Society has shown us that you do not have to deal with weakness. When you are hurt or when you feel weak, you can turn to the bottle. You can smoke something. You can swipe right and forget about your problems until you are numb. And when you can’t feel them anymore, you are “strong” again.
But does that sound like strength to you? Did you know that neither of the descriptions above are God’s view of strength? God made David, an errand boy, strong. Though he was just a boy, he defeated a giant. David knocked Goliath to the ground with a stone. God doesn’t need your strength. He needs your weakness.
He doesn’t want you to turn to the things of this world. He doesn’t need you to “get right” before coming to Him. God wants you to bring your weakness to Him. He will use it for your good and His glory! No matter what your weakness, or Achilles heel, is God is the answer. What you can’t do because you are weak, God will do for you, in you, and through you.
And when He does so, you will understand his Divine power. He will use YOU! And that is a special journey you can go on, if you let Him guide you!
