Take Heart, I Have Overcome
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33
Psalm 37:5 tells us to commit our ways to God. Trust Him, and He will act. As important as trust is, it is made real during times of struggle and difficulty. It is easy to trust during times of comfort. It is easy to obey the voice of the Lord when things are good and when times are easy.
But the question is whether we will trust Him when our backs are up against the wall and when we are between a rock and a hard place. Maintaining confidence in the God above us despite the challenges in front of us requires us to hold fast to the words of the Apostle Paul, who said in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
That word “steadfast” has several meanings in the Greek, one being loyal, morally fixed, and seated in your stand. Trusting God concedes that there are and will be difficult times. It implies we are choosing to be content with God when we are uncomfortable with our circumstance.
And if we seek to grow in our walk with God, test is going to be key… for failure to trust in God hinders our spiritual progress; it dwarfs and delays our destiny, and it prevents us from living the life that God wants us to have. It is one thing not to trust in people and public institutions, but it is something entirely different not to put your head, your hands, and your heart in the care of God.
If you want to fulfill the destiny God has for you, you must trust Him. Because while that destiny will be rewarding, it will not come without tests and challenges. But when they come, you cannot be overcome by them. The only way to reach your destiny, is to trust God every step of the way. If you trust Him, He will not let you be overcome!
