Your Dreams or God’s Dreams?
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” - Jeremiah 29:11
As you continue to pursue the path God has set before you, one thing you must do is decipher between a good idea and a “God idea.” That is what Craig Groeschel talks about in his book, “IT: How Churches and Leaders Can Get It and Keep It.” He writes that we must learn to tell the difference between a good idea and a God idea because every good idea to you may not be what God wants for you.
In Genesis 16, Sarai’s proposal was actually a good idea according to the traditions and ethos of the time. If a man wanted to have an heir and it was thought that his wife was unable to have a child, it was very common for that man to try and have an heir with a servant girl. The problem was that using a surrogate was not God’s idea for their lives.
Abram bore a son with Hagar, a woman who was not his wife. This produced a troubled home. Sarai became mean and bitter, and Abram (as well as Hagar) had to deal with Sarai’s wrath.
When you choose to do things your way and dismiss the plan God has for you, when you fail to align your dreams with God’s dreams, sin can take a stronghold. In Abram’s case, it produced a troubled home and a troubled heart for all parties.
Think back to a time when you tried to chase something that was not in God’s will for you. How did it turn out? If you are currently chasing a dream, make sure it is God’s dream. If you know it is not, ask God to align your dreams with His. Because what He wants for you is greater than anything you can imagine; and if you could see what He sees, you would want to wait for His best.
A beautiful thing happens when you align your dreams with God’s. Your house is in order, and you won’t have to worry about unnecessary conflict due to disobedience. When presented with the choice, choose God’s dreams.
