Chosen, Adopted, Accepted.
“He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.” - Ephesians 1:5
Modern Christianity has tainted people’s understanding of reality and Christian faith so much that they reduce Christianity to living the American dream, being personally successful, accumulating wealth and riches. But none of those things are why Jesus died on the cross. Worldly success fades, money can be lost, and popularity can be fleeting.
On the contrary, the blessings of God are to be found in that which is eternal and long-lasting. This is why you must build your hope on that which is eternal. The Apostle Paul tells the Ephesian church exactly what they should be seeking and proceeds to explain to them why it is that believers have this distinct power from God working on the inside of them.
From Paul’s perspective, knowing WHY we have this power helps us to live a life of power. The power we have from God the Father is rooted in the fact that He has chosen us, adopted us, and accepted us. When you think about these things, you can be confident that the power of God is available to you as a believer.
First, you are chosen by God. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Before He even knew you, God chose you.
Second, you are adopted by God. Ephesians 1:5 says, “he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.” This tells us God not only chose us, but He has chosen to adopt us as sons and daughters of Christ.
Lastly, you are accepted by God. Romans 5:17 says, “God has been so kind to us, and he has accepted us because of Jesus, and so we will live and rule like kings.” God has not only chosen you; He has not only adopted you; He has accepted you. None of us are perfect. But God still accepts us anyway.
When it comes to accessing the power of God, you might feel like you are unworthy. But do not be mistaken, my friend. You are chosen, adopted, and accepted by your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
