Break The Cycle
“Now reform your ways and your actions and obey the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you.” - Jeremiah 26:13
Over the last few days, we have discussed Moses and the ways in which he lost his temper, leading to him killing an Egyptian man. Though Moses had a long history of struggling with this rage and anger, he was eventually able to break that cycle in his life. Moses is proof that we are not perpetually doomed to repeat the patterns that we have learned. You too can break the cycle.
No matter what you struggle with, whether it is anger, an addiction, a bad habit, or just fear of the unknown, you are always one decision away from breaking the negative cycle. Moses showed his temper on many occasions. But when Pharaoh came searching for him to kill him, Moses did not retaliate.
Many people are discouraged today because they once made a decision that became a habit, then turned into an addiction. And they are living with the regret of that decision. In Romans 7, Paul says, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate, I do.”
Moses and Paul show us that even believers struggle with breaking cycles. It is not easy, but God is faithful. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “When you are tempted, he will provide a way out.” Turn to God and ask him to give you the strength you need to break the cycle.
