Victory Over Anger
“One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to where his people were and watched them at their hard labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his own people. Looking this way and that and seeing no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.” - Exodus 2:11-13
Yesterday, we discussed the idea of keeping your cool. If there is anyone who needed to learn how to keep his cool, it was Moses. One day Moses went out to where his people were and saw them being forced to perform hard labor. In the process, he saw an Egyptian man beating a Hebrew man. After witnessing this, Moses looked around to see if anyone was watching, and then when he saw there was no one around, he killed the Egyptian man and hid him in the sand.
Moses felt a sense of solidarity with his people, and he was clearly upset at the injustices committed against them. But in the process, he allowed his indignation to get the best of him, and it caused him to do something he should not have done. Moses had a right to be angry and hurt by how his people were being treated. But the problem with Moses’ anger was how he expressed it.
Sadly, many prisons, courts, unemployment offices, prisons, and even graves are filled with people who didn’t know how to keep their cool and get the victory over anger. In this world, you will always be able to find reasons to be upset. People will do things you do not like. Injustices will occur and things will happen that you deem unfair.
The key is not to breathe, take a minute to cool down, and pray. Even as a believer, God does not promise that life will always be great; but He does promise to always be with you. Because of this, you can find victory, no matter what angers you in life!
