Filled With A Different Energy
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit…” - Ephesians 5:18
Do you ever wonder how, as a Christian, you are expected to resist the temptations of this world? How are you expected to remain pure until marriage when it appears no one else does? How when you have problems do you not turn to the bottle, pills, or drugs like so many, trying to alleviate the pain? Do you ever wonder how you are supposed to trust in someone you have never seen?
These are all great questions. You have probably already heard the answer—through the power of the Holy Spirit. Yes, it sounds cliche. Yes, it sounds like the typical Sunday school answer. But what does that mean—the power of the Holy Spirit? The word “spirit” means wind, force, or energy. The word “holy” means different or set apart.
Paul says be filled with a different energy, a unique force, exclusive power. This is what the Holy Spirit is living within you. You have a different energy, an energy capable of doing all that Christ as asked. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
This way out is the Holy Spirit, the one who gives you a different energy. As a follower of Christ, you have access to an exclusive power, Jesus. A power that those of this world do not have. Because of this, all the things He asks of you are possible. We live in a world where sinning is enticing. Sometimes it seems impossible to choose what is right. But because you have the Holy Spirit living within you, you are filled with a different energy. Embrace that energy and allow the Spirit to give you the exclusive power only God possesses!
