Faithful In a Divine Delay
“Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” - Psalms 37:7
There is a story in Luke about a man named Simeon who waited his entire life to see the Messiah, the one who would save and lead the people of God and establish a new kingdom. Simeon is told by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he sees the new king. So when the infant child, Jesus, was brought into the temple by his parents to be consecrated before the Lord, Simeon was there to witness and recognize Him as the Promised One he had been looking for.
As difficult as it must have been waiting month after month, year after year, decade after decade, Simeon didn’t become weary while waiting. He did not give up on God. He never threw in the towel or drowned in his misery in the bottom of a bottle. Instead, he was in the house of God worshipping and waiting on God to do what he said he would do.
It is that model of persevering faith that is an example for you and I, today. Whether you are waiting for change to come, or waiting for a new day, or waiting for things to turn around, Simeon is an example of what it looks like to be faithful in the face of what seemed to be a divine delay. He continues to live a life of consistent trust in God, walking upright until what he hoped for came to pass.
If you are in the midst of waiting right now, do not get frustrated and turn from God. Do not look to quick fixes or forms of instant gratification. These only lead to regret and heartbreak. Instead, remain faithful to God, trusting and knowing that He always comes through. If God said He would do it, He will. Stay faithful in the midst of your divine delay.
