Claiming Your Freedom
“Jesus replied, ‘Very true I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the son sets you free, you will be free indeed.’” – John 8:36
The abundant life for which Jesus came and died was predicated upon a desire to set us free. John the evangelist conveyed the Lord’s sentiments when he said, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” It is a two-fold freedom that both allows for complete uninhibited access to God and exempts us from liability.
The substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the Cross gives us open and complete access into the kingdom of God; and it exempts us, exonerates us, acquits us, and relieves us from all debts owed and all future liabilities to be paid.
Additionally, in many of his writings, Paul wants us to understand that Christ alone saves, and salvation isn’t based on traditions or rituals. We have been pardoned, meaning our record is wiped clean and our punishment has been forgiven. God wants us to be unapologetic in embracing our spiritual freedom!
No matter what you have done in this life, God offers you the same freedom He offers every believer. Your value is not found in what you have done, but in what Christ has done for you. Do not allow the scars of your past to define your present. Claim the freedom God has offered you and write a new chapter in your life today.
