Will You Be Ready?
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.” - Revelation 3:20-21
Jesus is coming back. For us believers, this does not come as a surprise. We are anticipating this. However, the question is… are you ready? Are you ready for Christ to return, as it could happen at any moment?
John invoked the imagery of Christ standing at the door knocking. The fact that Jesus is coming back is foreshadowed in the folded napkins that John finds at the tomb of Jesus Christ, recorded in John 20. There, the record shows that when Peter entered the tomb of Jesus, he saw the napkin that covered Jesus’ head folded and neatly placed in the corner.
This is not something robbers would have done. It is something only Jesus would have done, as it spoke volumes to the audience that heard the story. There was an ancient custom that when a man finishes his meal, he signals to the servants that he is done by balling up the napkin when he leaves the table. But if in the course of dining he has to leave the table and plans to return, he does not ball up the napkin. He just folds it to let the servants know he is coming back.
When Jesus got up and folded that napkin, he was letting His servants know, “I’m coming back.” We know Jesus will return. Although we do not know when, we do not have to. Our concern is not the timing, but instead that we are ready whenever that day does come. So often we procrastinate and put off the things we know we should do now, believing that we will have time in the future. But what if Jesus came back now? Would you have regrets?
Don’t face the Father with regrets of what you should have done. Instead, live as if He truly could come back at any moment. Only then, will you truly be ready.
