Getting to The Root of The Matter (Pt. 1)
“If you say, ‘How we will hound him, since the root of the trouble lies in him, you should fear the sword yourselves; for wrath will bring punishment by the sword and then you will know that there is judgment.” - Job 19:28-29
In Israel, banana farms are one of the most stable and profitable agricultural sectors and one of the largest among the country’s plantation-based crops. They pick between 150,000 and 170,000 tons of bananas across plantations as large as 6,700 acres. About 4,000 people depend on the industry for their livelihood. In the summer of 2016, a farmer saw there was something not right with the bananas.
Come to find out it was a disease called the Panama disease that wilts and destroys only banana plants. To address the situation, they tried to spray the plants hoping that would remove the fungus. However, after about two months, the disease had become even stronger and had spread to other plots. They then realized that the fungus doesn’t attack the banana plant or the fruit. So they came to the conclusion to fight the disease without ruining their economy, and giving them many more problems, they had to dig up the plants from the root.
Turns out that the issue is at the root level, and not the fruit level, and if they really wanted to fix the situation they had to get to the root of the matter. It turns out that getting to the root of the matter is key when it comes to agriculture, but also in just about every other area of life.
So when you look at your life, what “disease” is killing your farm? What problem is creating other problems or damaging other areas of your life? See the best doctors in the world do not just listen to the side effects and prescribe medicine to lessen the pain. They search to find what is causing the side effects and the problem in general. Then they watch to treat the issue as a whole. This is how you can cure a “disease” in your own life. What one area do you wish you could change? Now what is truly causing this issue? Ask God to help you remove this disease. Just remember, He is likely not just going to strip it away, but challenge you to do so yourself.
