Time is (NOT) Running Out
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” - Ecclesiastes 3:1
Over the course of this month, we talked about the story of Abigail marrying Nabal and the trouble that marriage gave her. She missed all the warning signs, and as a consequence, she ended up in a bad marriage. Like Abigail, many people find themselves in an unfulfilling relationship because they ignore the warning signs. One reason we are often compelled to ignore these signs is because we feel the pressure of time.
Society has created timeline which it expects every individual to follow. You are “supposed to” go from graduating high school, to going to college, graduating college, finding a job, getting married, and having children. They not only designate the order but are constantly asking the next question as soon as you have answered the previous one. Because of this, we, perhaps more than ever, are feeling the pressure of time. Perhaps Abigail jumped into marriage because she felt pressured to marry immediately.
One of the most dangerous things both men and women do is they get into relationships because they feel like their biological clock is ticking and they don’t want to be alone. It is truly better to be with nobody than to be with half of somebody. Rushing into a relationship because of the pressure of time can cause serious resentment and leave you longing for more. Don’t fall into this trap, my friend.
Time is NOT running out. God has set an appointment for all the major (and minor) milestones in your lifetime. They may or may not be in the set order that society has deemed is standard. But God is not concerned with the world’s outlook or time frame. He has His own timeline for you, and it's perfect. Remember today that your time is not running out, and no one can mess up the divine appointments God has set for your life. Whether it is your future husband or wife, or a job offer, or a chance to travel the world, there is a time for everything. Trust God and His timing; you will not regret it. And in doing so, it will take all the pressure off of you. Your time is coming my friend!
