Don’t Miss The Signs
“Do not be unequal yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” - 2 Corinthians 6:14
Before entering into a relationship, do you consider everything you have learned and observed about the person or do you simply jump in without any concerns? Or worse, do you ignore those concerns and believe those issues are not a big deal? This can be a dangerous approach that could cause you severe pain down the road.
I remember an experience I had driving toward the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, and just before the bridge there is a HUGE sign informing drivers whether to take the local lane or the thru lane based upon traffic. As I came up to it, I saw the sign clearly point me in the right direction; it clearly said that I should go toward the thru lane. But even though I saw the sign I said to myself, “if everyone is going to go that way, let me go the other way.” And I ended up stuck in a traffic jam despite the sign warning me. I thought I knew better than the sign.
Many of us do the same thing when we are dating. Whether we are starting a relationship or if we are already in one, we see the signs that are clearly telling us what is ahead; but somehow, we think we know better than the sign.
My friend, do not make the same mistake I made on the road that day. Because while sitting in traffic was a consequence, it was not nearly as severe as being unequally yoked to someone you want to spend the rest of your life with.
If you are unsure if the person you are dating, or considering dating (or even marrying) is the right person for you, ask God. He loves when you come to Him in prayer and ask Him to give you wisdom. If you ask God to show you a sign, He will reveal to you whether or not it is His will. Just make sure when you ask, you are prepared for the answer. No matter what, don’t miss the sign, God is your protector and He will steer you in the right direction.
